It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Training Program in Regenerative Medicine.
The Canadian Institute of Health Research has implemented an exciting new grants program: The CIHR Strategic Training Initiative in Health Research. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage a transdisciplinary, integrative approach to health research through the training of a new generation of researchers capable of combining various approaches in devising innovative solutions for the research and treatment of complex medical problems. Programs sponsored as part of this initiative will increase the capacity of the Canadian health research community and will raise standards in health research training.
We have developed a multi-site, multidisciplinary accredited course for graduate students in the field of Regenerative Medicine. We are currently affiliated with the University of Toronto, McMaster University and Ottawa University.
At this time, there are few scientists and practitioners in regenerative medicine, and no inclusive training program exists in this important field in Canada or--to our knowledge--anywhere in the world. The mandate of the CIHR Training Program in Regenerative Medicine is to ensure that there will be qualified researchers and practitioners to develop and practice in this field which has the potential to greatly reduce medical and social costs, to provide qualified, innovative personnel for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, and to prolong and improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of Canadians. Here, you will find an overview of our program and we are excited about the credit course available currently at the University of Toronto. I am sure that you will find this site to be an excellent educational/informational resource for the public and health professionals alike.
Sincerely,
Gary Levy, MD, FRCP(C)
